Sabres record: 35-30-8

March 25th, 2009

I’ll be honest.  I only caught the end of the second period in this one.  The Sabres were down 2-1 when I tuned out.  At that point, CRAIG RIVET! had the only Buffalo goal.  I tuned out and started playing Xbox, but I kept the real time score box up on my computer.  As the third period began, the Panthers scored a third goal to put themselves up by two.  After that was a different story.  I’d look at the score box, and suddenly, there’s another Sabres goal, increasing the population as JASON POMINVILLE scored to make it 3-2 Florida.  Next time I looked, it’s 4-3 Buffalo off of goals from CLARKE MacARUTHUR! and TIM CONNOLLY!.   When I looked one last time, the Sabres were up 5-3 with moments left to go off of MAXIM AFINOGENOV’s empty netter.  The Sabres have finally beaten a team they’re chasing, putting the Florida Panthers away, 5-3 the final from the HSBC Arena.

SABRES RECORD: 34-30-8

March 21st, 2009

For a minute, there was a gleam of hope.  Toni Lydman put the Sabres within one with just over a minute to go, but the Rangers pick up the empty netter to put the Rangers up, and set our final score at 5-3 New York.

TONI LYDMAN!

March 21st, 2009

TONI LYDMAN! picks up a goal late in the third to bring the Sabres within one!  4-3 Rangers.

CLARKE MacARTHUR!

March 21st, 2009

CLARKE MacARTHUR! scores just 18 seconds into the third to bring the Sabres within 2.  4-2 Rangers.

DANIEL PAILLE!

March 21st, 2009

The Sabres came into the second period against the New York Rangers trailing 1-0.  The Rangers struck first in the period, but DANNY PAILLE! scored to put the Sabres back within reach.  2-1 Rangers.

CHRIS BUTLER! (Sabres Record: 34-29-8)

March 20th, 2009

Well, with 1.2 seconds left in the game and his team down by 3, I guess it’s bittersweet for CHRIS BUTLER! who scored his first NHL goal at the end of this very disappointing game.  6-4 Philly, the final.

Note: I screwed up somewhere along the way and missed an overtime loss - the standings in the title here are correct.

DEREK ROY!

March 20th, 2009

Where’s the puck?  That’s what Harry Neale was wondering.  Did Martin Biron have it?  If so, did he have it long enough to get a whistle?  Nope.  He almost had it, but didn’t have it held tight enough to get a whistle, and DEREK ROY! tapped it the extra half inch over the goal line to pick up a goal and put the Sabres back in the lead, 3-2!

WELCOME TO BUFFALO, DOMINIC MOORE!

March 20th, 2009

The sidebar is going to say that DOMINIC MOORE!

just had his first goal - but it’s only his first as a Sabre.  It’s his 13th of the season and he puts the Sabres up 2-1 in the second!

THOMAS VANEK~!

March 20th, 2009

THOMAS VANEK~! puts his 35th goal in past Martin Biron, his first since returning from a broken jaw, and this game with the Flyers is tied at one!

Sabres Record: 34-29-7

March 17th, 2009

The Sabres kicked ass in the first period, but as they have in recent games, they fell flat in the second and third.  4-2 Senators, the final.
